Say what?

Oh, you mean my weblog post is too long. It goes past the limits of your patience and vocabulary and you flick away. Well flick off, by all means – this column is for the grown-ups.

It is for the people who can spend day, weeks, and months on scale model kits – and not give up. The instant-result people can go boil their two-minute noodles and their heads.

You do not learn much from one-liners – nor do you lose by reading, thinking, then reading again. Not every good idea comes to you instantly. It is a measure of your maturity if you can study repeatedly and understand more each time you do.

The only times when you need instant results are when you are cementing things with super-glue – and you can get bottles of accelerator for this purpose. Every other blessed thing you do in scale modelling benefits from a few minutes of patience and a sensible schedule.

After all, you try building a 1/72 model diorama of Ancient Rome and see if you can do it in a day…
