Nieuport 24Bis – Part One – So What’s With The Bis, Eh?

What was wrong with the plain letter B? Not European enough to be sophisticated?

Well, the dictionary defines it as meaning ” again ” so the Bis version is the second one. Like we couldn’t have gotten that from a simple ” B ” ? Son of a Bis…

This is another Roden kit, and carries within its box the wherewithal to make the first version as well as the Bis, in case you have a change of mind half-way through. The decals are varied enough to support whatever you fancy. In my case I have Nieuports 11 and 17 already and need a bit of variety. It will be a SOOTB build, including decals.

The castings are quite exquisite, and have delicate gates – a change from some of he other Ukrainian makers. The engine is spare, but well-proportioned. There are two tailplane assemblies. The lower wing astonishes and disconcerts.

The decor is simple – silver and brown for the French version. I do have a similar 11 but this is much bigger. The armament is spare – presumably the French pilots would dominate their German enemies by force of character or a well-thrown baguette.
