Too many to make your hobby shop choice an easy matter.
And that’s the way it is with scale model chemicals – whether that is paint, cement, or polish – in the 21st century. We might have passed cheerful childhoods with tube cement, tinned paint, and a bottle of turpentine, but we ain’t going to get away that easy any more. We have systems and products now…and techniques. If we are not careful we get rules and consequences.
Every decal system has two components; a goop you put on under the decal and a goop you put on over it. Some makers provide a third goop – one that sticks wayward decals down even if their own glue has dried out.
It might be possible to mix and match between four or five chemical brands for these components, but everyone I know tries to stick to one brand or another…and then changes brands wholesale in a few years. The proponents of one system over another are avoided at cocktail parties.
