Chinese Flying Animal – Part Three – Inside Out

This time the I-16 will be built to show off the exquisite engine inside

The Soviet version had the side panels on and all the work was invisible. To facilitate this the sub-assemblies can be largely built up before they have to go inside the fuselage – a very welcome design feature. It is never much fun to juggle a cockpit tub, wheel well, and tail assembly as you try to achieve a seam-free joint.

The details inside make me wonder whether there are other models from ICM that would have as much complexity. The Soviets used P-39 Airacobras, so it may be that ICM also has them in their kit catalogue. What if they have a fully detailed Allison engine and cockpit as well.

As the only P-39’s in my collection are somewhat crude Hobby Boss ones that try to sit on their tails, it may be time to look for alternatives.
