Art Thou Too Fussy, Friend?

Is thy hobby becoming a fiend upon thy shoulders?

Should thee push away the PE fret and stop fretting? Is there happiness in a flat cardboard box?

In short, are you taking it all to seriously? Have you gone past the fun and arrived at the work…and paid a swingeing price for it?

I have sometimes lost the plot, the page, the book, and the desire to live while making a scale model. It has been rare, thank God, but it has been real. And now that I am now alert to the possibility, I can avoid it in the future.

a. Do not build kits that endanger your financial stability. The $ 1200 kit is fabulous to contemplate, but so is a Lamborghini, and both would kill you within five minutes.

b. Do not build against anyone else – nor against your own will. If you are not making a model for you, you either need to be paid a living wage for doing so, or put it down and walk out the door. A hobby is to recreate your mind, not enslave it.

c. ” You can always do more “. Of course you can. You can do more sex, more food, more money, more travel, more murder, etc. More is always an option and it is the one that the devil uses to reel you in.

You can reproduce the ignition system on a 1/72 Spitfire, but no-one in their right mind would do so. If you find yourself at 4:00 AM gapping the plugs on your Airfix Mk IX Spittie, read that last line slowly…
