You’ll note the pink dots on the wings and fuselage of the Airspeed Oxford – these are the lesions of Moulder’s Pox.
It was a disease that afflicted scale models in the 1950’s and 60’s. It was caused by styrene mixtures that tended to shrink. This was exacerbated by pulling the sprue tree from the mould quickly, without giving it time to cool adequately.
It manifested itself at areas that had greatest thickness – like internal posts and alignment pins. The only remedy was to fill it with Perfect Plastic Putty, Bondall, or some other artificial product.
I was fortunate to be introduced to the idea of Sprue Goo some time ago and find it the best possible solution for this sort of flaw. I dip in the bottle, daub it on, and stand back for a day. When it dries a knife and sanding stick gradually reduce it to the level of the main surface and the whole problem disappears.
And it disappears for nothing.
