The Scale Of the Problem

Is related to the person judging it.

Those who have a problem, have a problem. Those who do not, have the people who do, and that is a problem…

Some years ago I noted an very attractive model of a modern jetliner at an exhibition of scale models. There were ground crew figures and vehicles servicing it. I was delighted with the scene.

But others pointed out that the airliner may have been a different scale than the figures, and they were unhappy with this. The sheer artistry of it all seems to have passed them by.

I am brought to this recollection when looking at a recent repaint job I did on some Plasticville buildings re-moulded by Bachmann. They were nominally a 1:48 scale in the 1950’s, though some buildings in their range differed from this. Simple, colourful, a delightful snapshot of the toy-train era, and valuable to me as a way of setting up studio photos.

I am contemplating a new airport, and need to fill the rear of a trestle table. I think Plasticville will do very well, and I plan to further disturb the psyche of the scale anoraks by using 1:64 scale cars as accessories in the display. Look at the top image and see if you don’t agree that the system will work very well, for an old kid like me.

I get to play all day!

Note. Marvin’s Sticky Sheets Motel has suffered a decline in business. One of the windows has been boarded up with a corrugated sheet.
