Have You Ever Been Tempted…

To chime in at the local hobby shop when you hear someone ask a question of a salesperson?

Well, stifle that impulse…unless you are asked a direct question by the staff member, your input is not helpful. You may know the answer, but consider that the answer you know may be one of many. The salesperson will know more of them than you do, and can apply the correct one to suit the client.

Consider it along the same line as offering medical advice in the Emergency Department waiting room. Unless you are a trauma physician employed by that hospital and under its legal protection, the neck you are sticking out is inside your collar. It can be chopped off from many directions.

At your hobby club you need not be as circumspect. There will be a lot of answers, but yours is as likely to be right as the next person’s and if you have results to show for it, you can defend your opinion. Beware, however, of overloading the novice with complexities. While there may be many ways up the mountain, they only have to climb one.
