On the tin…
I wonder what the Junkers man said to the first German test pilot who climbed aboard old No. 1 and settled down into the corrugated metal? ” You von’t stick your finger through zis one, Herr Baron…”.
While I find the vertical tailplane to be somewhat agricultural, the rest of the structure has a certain ” Metropolis ” charm to it. There has been some little effort to smooth the airflow about the engine and the wings are positively bird-like.

With enough power from the engine, I should imagine it could soar – somewhat – and I’ll bet it dived like a demon. The metal structure may have given the pilot some sense of protection from enemy bullets, but I think that would have been false confidence. At least the pilot could see forward and up perfectly with no upper wing to get in the way.

The Roden kit is actually a beauty. I was initially taken aback at the colour scheme but it only needed one custom mix of purple to be quite easy to do. I was grateful that it was not some lozenge pattern. Those have to be reserved for decal sheets, and even that is asking for trouble.

Will we see more from Roden, or is it submerged in national disaster? I cannot say, but I will be searching out kits as they become available.
