You might get that impression from the television and movie portrayals of model makers.
We seem to be the losers skulking in the basements of the world. Many of us are psychopaths.
Well, that may be you, but it isn’t me. My childhood interest was converted to professional purposes and served me well for forty years. It never stopped and now serves me again in retirement. I have more friends and more purpose than any sport or job could have given me.
And I am gratified to realise that there are So Many miniature hobbyists out there besides myself. The little world has a dozen divisions I can identify and I suspect there are others yet undiscovered.and even in the main hobbies there are subdivisions. The miniature builder and collector is not an oddity at all – just unrecognised.
And come to think of it, a lot of us experience a more than the casual television watcher. We know the size, shape, and operation of a lot more of the world than they do. I saw this in action upon watching a number of well-organised scale model railway layouts operate to schedules and plans. Occasionally a big finger had to poke the 6:05 back into action, but the rest of it was real life.
