October 1944. The Slovaks rose up against the German occupation. They failed.
But while they tried, they gained eternal fame, and part of that attempt was made with the Czech AVIA B.543 fighters. Biplanes against modern Messerschmitts and Focke Wulfes. You can guess what happened…

I never knew this – the odd insignia on the decals was the first thing that alerted me to the history. I was determined – after reading the Google history – to preserve this slice of history in miniature.

The thing made me nervous – I have applied eastern European decals before, and can show you the scars. I decided to coat over them with a thinned mixture of clear acrylic lacquer. I use a Supercheap Auto product for this as it can be cut with Gunze Creos Rapid Thinner and coat and dry quickly.

Well, folks, it worked. I need not have worried – the KP decals slid off like a politician escaping from a reporter and went down fine. I need not have coated them.

The model will be a singleton in my collection – but a proud one. The only Slovakian aircraft in a sea of others. God bless them.
