In my case, without the hair…
I don’t care – if the era came back with half this much success, I would be delighted. So far the old Airfix Series 3 kit is doing very well indeed. The basic structure went together at one afternoon session.

However, it was never going to go together without some wrassling. The fuselage locating pins were ever-so-slightly big and this would have skewed the join. I am always suspicious of these, so I reamed the holes and reduced the pins – and then carefully cemented a progressive join around the fuselage. Takes a little more time, but saves a lot of filling and sanding.

The air intakes were never going to be simple, and they needed some careful truing and pin removal to get to a reasonable compromise, There were also marked gaps with the wing , but only on the underside, and thankfully in a spot that had a flat surface to sand to.

For the first time in a long while I employed all three forms of filler: Vallejo plastic in a squeeze tube, Mr Dissolves Putty, and Sprue Goo. Used to their best advantage, and left over several days to set, they have done well. It is not perfect, but then neither am I.

Note the flying tail has been locked into a down position.
