When People Are Determined To Be Happy

You have to work hard to break the spell.

One of my hobby clubs meets in two separate places; a public library and my photo studio. It is fortnightly schedule that lets us have an outing somewhere each week. Another club offers a delightful morning mid-week. I need never lack for amusement.

This camaraderie is not strictly necessary for the hobby – one could work all year on one’s own and derive whatever pleasure exists. One could show the results at an annual exhibition and feel a part of the community – yet the club structures really do make for happiness…provided people are looking for it.

I think that some clubs in the past may have gone past the happiness stage and morphed into serious and powerful structures. This generally happens when someone has an agenda and compels others to fulfil it. People will acquiesce for a while, but eventually the freer and wiser spirits will drift away. I am pleased to say I think these are just the sorts who have washed up into the present two clubs.

I do my best to feed and water them when they come to the studio and welcome them with open arms. Life and joy, close and often, is a pleasure that you cannot buy!
