Dewoitine D.500 – Part Two – Aeronavale

It is a pity that the development of the French Navy’s air arm was cut short by being the country being defeated on the land.

It would have been interesting to see them engaged with the Italian Navy in the Mediterranean. As it was, the two sides might have been evenly matched.

This version of the Dewoitine is a neat and streamlined little fighter – unlike some of the other inter-war French designs. Perhaps Dewoitine was not riddled with communists and fascists like some of the other factories.

The kit went together as expected, with no additional pinning of the wings or tail surfaces. The decals went on perfectly in an hour, and with little fiddling. Even the fiddly bits like the step or the aerial masts went on without error.

Let us hope for more from the inter-war French designers. Heller has still not been built out.
