Martin Canberra – Part Two – Dry Fit Champ

As soon as the cockpit tub went in – along with the 3/4 of a musket ball – I knew I was on a winner.

A fuselage cementation stage can be heaven or hell, depending on whether the moulders have proportioned the cockpit tub or platform to the actual inside of the shell. Many Czech firms do not quite manage to get agreement between the desire of the cockpit crew and those of the fuselage designers. There is always filing, fettling and fury, The lack of any interior rests or stops makes it worse, as you are often unsure where a bulkhead should go.

A cynic’s view is that it is meant to go where it doesn’t fit…

This one went beautifully, and then the progressive cementation sealed the thing. This time I did not depend upon the thin Mr Hobby cement – I used the medium viscosity and made sure it was well into all the cracks. If you can achieve shell closure without stress you generally have no further trouble.

This wings will get a tiny shave off the internal fitting surfaces and then an hour’s setting time for each side.
