Fairchild Argus – Part Two – Inside

There are a number of sources of information for the completion of any cockpit:

a. The instruction sheet. Good luck there…

b. Internet images of service aircraft taken in the past, before colour film was widely available – good luck there again.

c. Internet images of current aircraft in museums. Some photographers, like Inch High Guy, are wise enough to shoot as much of the cockpit as they can. You hope the museum restorers have sourced accurate information themselves.

d. Actual aircraft in museums. It is the work of a moment to climb into the cockpit of the aircraft and prise a panel off to take home. If you cannot get anything loose, at least scrape some of the paint into an envelope.

e. Contemporary factory records.

f. Your own imagination.

G. The club ‘rak who read something about it in 1967, but he can’t remember where. This is 109% accurate information.

My Argus has British cockpit green and brown leather inside. As it is an RCAF aircraft, that is moose leather…
