The Whiff

Of what-if.

This topic has been raised before on these pages in a somewhat sardonic fashion, but it can also have a serious side.

a. Much of the whiffery revolves around Germany’s Third Reich in the middle to late 1940’s. Lots of unbuilt designs for tanks and aircraftare trotted out and kitted up.

Yet few of the what-ifs are ever Allied plans or designs. These would be just as speculative as the Axis ones and ever-so-interesting. Why not mould them?

b. If you wish to whiff the Third Reich through the mid 40’s, consider whiffing them past May to August…and later. There was a third atomic bomb well in preparation and material gathering for a fourth. Lot closer to Berlin from East Anglia than it is to Hiroshima from the Marianas…

c. What if the whiff is taken back in time to the period of 1918? Would you like to whiff new ships for the navies of the time and draw them out onto the North Sea again?

d. Whiff the South African War with European involvement.

Or save your whiffery for the science fiction table. You’ll get a lot more support from the film and television industry and a chance to exercise as much or as little common sense as you wish.
