Be fair and honest. Sometimes your mates will complete scale model projects that are far better than you could ever do.

Don’t be jealous. Don’t be critical. Don’t push them off the shelf onto the floor. Give them their due, and ADMIRE them.

I see other modellers in my clubs concentrate on their specialities and put heart and soul into them for months on end. I watched one chap toil for over a year on a model kit. It was eventually finished, and it was a corker. He was proud of it and I got to share in that pride by photographing it in my slightly professional manner.

The tribute of this, and other member’s comments, were deserved and I hope they made the chap feel good. It was honest recognition for a job well done, and as we had seen him at work over a long period of time, I think it was more genuine that a tick-the-box assessment by some contest judge at an annual exhibition.

Maybe one day I’ll do as good a job.
