FW 190 – Part One – A Classic Gift

I well remember the 1/4″ scale kits moulded by Monogram in the 1960’s/

They were a must-buy when you encountered them in the hobby shops in Alberta but you needed more money to do so than with Revell or Aurora products. They were either in shorter supply or regarded as better items. They also sometimes featured moving parts – a bonus for the young builder.

This Luftwaffe plane in 1/48th scale is a gift from a friend and the box seems to contain a number of bonuses as well as the detailed kit. I count an advertising leaflet and a woven cloth badge as extras to entice the buyer.

I shall deal with it in my own way, and have internetted several candidates for the colour scheme and decoration. The business of building 1/48th is new to me in retirement – most of my work being on 1/72nd. Still, there are 5 aircraft on a 1/48th special shelf and this will make 6 when it is done.

I am looking forward to scouring the shelves of the hobby shops for subjects that 1/72 just doesn’t have.
