Bristol F.2B – Part One – The Dogfight Half

Bitterly disappointed as I was upon opening the Airfix box, I decided to soldier on.

I had been expecting a Fokker triplane as well as a Bristol F.2b that were shown on the box top. Inside the box were decals for both planes, instructions and call-out for both, but no Fokker. Instead I got a second Bristol.

Well, repair to the internet and see what could be done with the second Brisfit. A lot, as it turns out, and someone had charted the postwar aircraft for the 1:32 scale kits Wingnut Wings kit. If they could do it, well so could I.

The Vintage Classic Bristols are somewhat corked and vinegary by now. There are massive ejector pin marks on the top of the wings and the pin registration of the fuselage halves is appalling. The pilots are half-bodies. The wheels are mis-moulded. But the propellers are nice. And the instructions are in English.

It will be a task…

The decals are quite nice, and will be partially useful for an RNZAF aircraft of the inter-war period. The other inter-war choice will be home-printed decals to be sure, to be sure…
