Fairey Firefly Mk V – Part Three – 60’s Airfix

But not the Bad sixties.

This kit fit pretty well – if you remembered to trim round the fuselage locating pins and square off the wing attachments. Only two small sink marks and the centre seam almost good. Not a major filling exercise.

The exhaust stacks are glorious but need to be put in before closure and then masked ever after. I believe I have finally found a good exhaust pipe paint; it took many years.

The masking was hard-edged and very easy to do. As the plane is to be RCN, the top line was oddly curved. I have a large coloured calendar print of this aircraft in flight so it was easy to follow the image. It is a preserved aircraft and they haven’t stinted with the wax and polish – a change from my normal semi or matte finish.

Note that the wings are down – the other alternative was tried but looked exceedingly ugly.
