Can You Wait Too Long?

I suspect you can…

And I am not writing about the 5 hr delay between when your family asks you whether you are ready…you standing at the door jiggling the car keys…and when they actually get in the vehicle. No, I mean between stages of a scale model build. Here are the reasons why I say ” Yes “:

a. If you leave it too long between stages you lose interest – or worse – gain interest in another kit. This is how you get parallel builds with 18 kits on the go at once.

b. Paints can set properly with a delay, but they can over-set if they start to shrink or crack.

c. Dust motes, fly feet, and sticky fingers all get a chance to ruin the next layer of paint if you leave things too long.

d. Any delay to the plastic or the paint is a delay to the decals. They age faster than Keith Richards. To be fair, so does the Nullarbor plain…

e. Things get lost. No matter what you do to secure the parts, they pack their little swags and trundle off. Cement them down before they get restless.
