The Little World Hall

Perth needs a Little World Hall…or perhaps a Little World Centre. Some place that people interested in all forms of modelling can come to for sharing, display, and learning.

The SMCWA and some other clubs use the Noranda clubrooms for this, and benefit greatly. Some disciplines use other suburban halls for meetings or have premises at their flying fields or museums. The various divisions of the LW are scattered throughout the metro area – knowing of each other but often never seeing what else goes on.

Even the annual exhibitions are held in different venues: a school gym, a town hall, a show-ground hall, etc. The events are separated, repeated, and sometimes clash with each other. How much better if there were an agreed, dedicated complex for the enthusiasts. One that might fall under state or city governance but allow for year-round use.

Note that one club I belong to benefited from a show cabinet in a public library that displayed our work year-round. There was a quarterly changeover of models but the task was very simple. More public displays of this sort would be wonderful.

One danger, however, would be in giving the let and hindrance for the hobbies to central bureaucracy. Cities and state departments love to deny and permit only when it benefits their own political futures. Client clubs who pay to a display venue at least could demand value for money and a major say in their own affairs.
