Mirage III CJ – Part Five – The Cavalry

That was the phrase used to describe the Mirage IIIC in a recent YouTube story about the Yom Kippur war.

Apparently two Israeli F4 Phantoms were engaging a vastly greater number of MiGs that were trying to destroy a desert airfield. The Mirages were touted as the cavalry coming to save the Phantoms, but I note the latter were steadily shooting down MiGs all day. Still, nice to have a break…

The end result from this Czech kit is almost entirely satisfactory, if you adjust your expectations.

It settled well on the front landing gear – itself a good moulding. It looks good. The minor errors that may have been incorporated were due to not understanding the instructions or getting a confused account of the various forms of the plane. The colour call-out from the makers was fine, but there is a limit to the amount of visual information that can be printed on an A4 sheet of paper.

My sincere compliments to the decal printers – these went on perfectly with no problems whatsoever. If a few stencils are not showing, it is because the call-out was too small to adequately define their positions.

The only trap for young players was the way the cockpit went in and the fact that the Martin Baker seat shield sits proud above the head rest- it necessitated raising the canopy – but there is enough detail inside to sustain this view.
