Never mind the state of the state. Never mind the environment, government, or after-dinner ment. Plastic kits are the topic and the rest of creation can go hang.

If you find yourself nodding sagely at this and agreeing whole-heartedly, you might start practising dodging and running. That way the attendants in white coats will have a harder time catching you with the net.

I am the last person to decry the hobby – I do some sort of scale modelling practically every day – but I realize that it is a hobby and a pastime – not the core of being. It is meant to be fun – is fun sometimes – and can be left at that level forever.

I do not sell hobby supplies, nor services like building, etc. That is the sad damnation for those people who wanted to make their hobby pay. It may have, but never so much that they were compensated for the loss of the joy of it. No business is fun, profitable though it may be.

Hobby shop owners play golf. Golfers build toy airplanes.
