Late Night Modelling

A doom-laden exercise. Unless you are building an Aurora ” Famous Monsters ” kit you’ll be making trouble for yourself.

As modellers we have routines and patterns that govern our lives. You just try walking past the hobby shop and not going in to see if there are kits on the shelves. You will be drawn in like iron filings to a magnet.

Likewise, you’ll have a regular time when you get to build on your scale model…or play with your train set, or whatever. Lucky you if it is any time you fancy, and even luckier you if you can maintain your interest over a long time. The person who can only snatch odd half-hours to do modelling may actually sustain themselves longer due to the shorter opportunity.

Nevertheless, you can spend some time of an evening cutting and gluing. Try to do it earlier rather than later, as your natural abilities take a big dive after 10:00 PM. You can boost along on coffee for awhile, but eventually even the beans don’t work and the eyelids droop.

The muscles do too, and the skill you have at 7:30 isn’t there to save you from ruining a part. Quit in time and you save a kit.

You also get some pretty stupid ideas late at night…take this column for instance. If it was typed in the full light of morning you could expect literature…as it is you may be stuck with litter

Note I do not advocate switching on a television and sagging in front of it. You can do that tomorrow…and remember that tomorrow never comes. Far better to pick up a book, a wife, or a trombone.

You can make a great deal of noise with a wife after 11:00 PM.
