If You Went To The Theatre As A Drama Critic

What would you do if the show was good? Bet you would be torn by the temptation to slam it anyway.

After all, that is what you are paid for and you have a reputation to uphold. The fact that you might do so by blackening that of others is beside the point…and Pierrepoint the Hangman had to do something to earn his rope money.

Likewise the visitor to a scale modelling competition. I should leave out the fellow competitor who sees the entries of others as a danger to his own. Even the casual lookers are judgmental – though they may have passed up the opportunity to be regular judges.

Here’s an opportunity for a mental experiment. At the next competition you attend – or at an exhibition or museum – look at each model and try to see the best part of it. See if it can make you happy, rather than sad. Remember that happiness when next you sit down at your own workbench, and see if you can do something to start it up again.

You need not frown at yourself all the time.
