I couldn’t resist bringing the Italeri/Zvezda MiG 3 back from the VVS shelves to compare it to the Hobby Boss version.

I also wondered if the extra canopy in the HB box could replace the scratch-built part on the older kit. In the end I decided against this as the fuselages seem somewhat different dimensions.

The HB aircraft has built up superbly with perfect fit wherever anything touched.I can only assume their research is correct as I have opted fro a straight box build including the fuselage artwork. I am always mildly amused at the Soviet propensity to sign-write propaganda on the sides of their aircraft. If they wished to scold the enemy they should have written it in German.

Note the differences in the landing gear. The HB fits well but is flimsier. Their gear doors have one of the best fits I have ever seen – would that all makers could emulate this.
