Seeing The Remnants All In One Place

Is good for the mind and bad for the soul. Or the other way round…

The big boxes full of little boxes – in their turn full of unbuilt plastic kits saved from the wreck of a Perth hobby shop – that greeted me at my hobby club were an amazing sight.

Part of the wonder was the sheer volume of the stash, and part the repetitive and unattractive nature of the goods. I looked at the old price stickers and wondered if anyone had ever purchased any of the range on offer – and for what purpose. There is a market for 1/72 scale figures of American Pioneers but not within about 10,000 miles.

The failure of the hobby shop a few years ago may have been due to many factors – tight money, loose management, bad stock, etc. it would be convenient to blame it on the customers who did not buy, except when you see what they did not buy you start to have sympathy and respect for them.
