Pilatus PC-21 – Part Five – RAAF Roulette

The Pilatus PC-21 were ready to fly – the next batch of pilot trainees due to make their solos.

One of them was the son of my niece. I have a short reel of him flying that first solo taken by a squadron mate. It is detailed enough to make out the number of the aircraft – and Ronin Decals have provided that number on their after-market decal sheet. A54-025 was his plane so A54-025 it is.

The reel also let me see what the tarmac was like under the planes waiting to take off – pretty scabby, as it happened. This was reproduced on the computer and stuck onto a sheet of corflute.

The whole vignette could be popped under a clear plastic cover made from a BoxSweden food container. Thank you to Red Dot – the gadgeteer’s paradise.

Quite what the new Flying Officer will think of the model remains to be seen – it will be a present for him when he returns from the eastern states.
