Soviet Hound – Part One – A Working Dog

The Mil Mi-4a Hound seems to have been a general-purpose worker for the old Soviet Union from 1960 until the late 70’s.

It is boxed by Trumpeter in a larger scale but Hobby Boss offer it for 1:72 in a very precise moulding. Four sprue trees, a colour call out sheet for the USSR and the PLA, and a small decal sheet.

The results seem superb – I think that the company takes great care with aircraft that have featured in their own armed forces. And this one has certainly been sold round the traps.

I’ll depict it in civil guise to take advantage of brighter colour – but I am delighted to see that the original still exists in an air museum in Latvia. It has aged and dulled down, but the information is all there in good colour photographs.

The price of the kit was very reasonable, though I just missed the half-price sale by a day.
