And be ready for the fun/pain/disappointment of your life…
The heading image is a leaflet that appeared in an old Airfix kit from last century that was given to me. I shall build the kit but hesitate joining the club.
The Airfix Club may still exist, and I, for one, hope it does. I would like spotty little kids growing up in Dead Loss, Drochshire, or Bedpans, Furnaceshire to be able to feel a part of the greater world. I would like the kids who are stuck inside to feel that they matter.
I wish I mattered…
For £ 13 they got a kit, a load of bumpf advertisement, and advice from people a lot like themselves. Most of it was workable, if you were in the same country as the writer, and could deal with the same hobby shops. For the rest of us it was nonsense.

I grew up in Western Canada – my mates here in Perth grew up in Western Australia. None of us had the access to the materials and techniques common in the UK. We could imagine and transpose and almost follow some of the instructions…but in the end were left in the snow or the sun doing what we could, with what we had, where we were. A crowd of little Teddy Roosevelts…
I am a member of two clubs now, and benefit greatly from their support. I do not need commercial hype to make me feel included. Yet, I would still recommend Airfix Club to anyone isolated from their mates. Any fellowship in the Little World is a good thing.
