Cheap Day Out

With all the burnt rubber you can want…

If you are wondering where John France and I disappear to every second Wednesday – the times when we are not recording Little World Studio reels in the studio – come out to the observation positions at either Perth Airport or Jandakot Airport.

With the wind from the right quarter and an hour or so, you can record the landings and take-offs of a wide variety of commercial aircraft. The platforms are free to use, as is the parking. There is shelter at the Perth one, and quite a few people take an interest in the air traffic.

There is space enough for tripods and video cameras as well as the longer still lenses. If you position yourself right you get clear views of aircraft, staff vehicles, and resident wildlife. Quendas and hawks are prevalent.

Do mind your bag while concentrating on the runway…
