The Little World

I once lacked the courage to brush.

It was in my early days as a scale modeller – before I popped the top on my first bottle of Revell paint and recoilled from the heady fumes. I was frightened to lay brush to plastic for fear of spoiling the model.

The phase didn’t last long – eventually the USS MISSOURI had a red bottom and the colour was extended to the tabletop, the walls, and most of my clothing.

I was frightened to use matt paints until I saw how much better they looked on 1/48 WW! aircraft.

I was terrified of the airbrush until I bought one in Melbourne for $ 90 and was determined to get value for money. I committed ALL the classic errors and invented several new ones, but eventually got to the point of nearly being satisfied.

Now I am going to embark upon brush painting for some parts of the models – since I have learned how to thin and retard the colours. If this seems retrograde, I can assure you it isn’t – there are areas of models that are far better done with brush than spray.

I can see a wholesale clearance of the old jar of brushes, though. It is time to buy ones that will a better job.
