Yikes – Scalemates says this kit was first released in 1973 and has been steadily re-released with different artwork ever since. It is like a bus on a roundabout – just wait to get aboard until it next circles past…
I am not worried – the last few Vintage Classics have been fine, and this is an aircraft I need for my new Colde Wellcombe airfield. There seems to be no need to diverge from the kit plans and these decals are fresh.
6 grey sprue trees and one clear. Not a lot of flash and I am not going looking for sink marks. If they come up and beg my attention I will do something, but I have long since decided to ignore most of them – aircraft in service get dented…
As the colour scheme is deadset similar to the Victor K2 tanker there is no need to buy new paint. Black underside, as befits an aircraft that doesn’t have to drop nuclear bombs. Troop seats inside in khaki and I will see if a few doors can be left open to show these off.
I admire Airfix more and more each year as they continue to supply older kits that I missed. All I ask is one new one as well as these classics, each year.
