Ya bastards!*
The saga of the little RAAF Pilatus trainer continues. My niece arrives tomorrow to collect the model – it is to be taken to Victoria for the graduation ceremony of her son – an RAAF pilot. It’s a copy of the aircraft he made his first solo in.
But how to get a plastic model of some delicacy all the way there? I resorted to cardboard, gaffer tape, a plastic container from Red Dot, and blocks of resilient foam that were saved from computer packaging. The whole is reasonably proof against knocks, with tape restraining straps and pads under the flat parts. The most delicate bits are in clear air, but will not move.
I am still going to advise that she and her husband carry the model as cabin luggage – on their laps for preference. The clear packing allows the airport security to X-ray and visually inspect it.
I shall now model for the next week for crossed fingers…
