No, that is not a euphemism for something disgusting. I mean thin your Sprue Goo for a better job.
My two bottles of homemade Sprue Goo were getting pretty viscous over the months. I daresay every time the lid was unscrewed more of the solvent evaporated and the thicker the Goo got. It could be troweled into the thickest gaps with a double ended plastic instrument but was just clagging on the top of the thin ones. It was time to make a new batch.
So this time I did with the usual mixture of white and brown styrene…yielding a pink Goo…but put in 2 x the usual amount of Supercheap Auto lacquer thinner. It’s the one that is too hot for regular painting but perfect as a gun cleaner. In this case it has a bite into the kit styrene that locks the Goo in place.
Well, thin is better. It spoons out of the jar easily and runs into the finest cracks. It settles noticeably when put into sink marks. It sets with a glossy shine. It files and sands perfectly and doesn’t chip out of the patch.
I shall leave the other bottles alone – there may be times when a thick wad is needed at the base of a gap – but most of the time I’ll layer up the thin Goo. The price is definitely right!
