The experience of the FROG Dornier is interesting. The kit is an older mould and has raised panel lines but no rivets. I don’t mind as it will have a dark finish anyway. But it is an older kit.
Thus the fit in some places is approximate. The fuselage is excellent, the wing box assembly commendably sturdy, and the twin tail perfect in symmetry. But the wing roots fittings are agricultural and the nacelle assembly will require several filling and sanding sessions. Fortunately the mis-fitting is on the side of generosity – there is more plastic than needed in most areas and it can be scraped and sanded back.
The deficiencies are all fixable – Perfect Plastic Putty for the broad, shallow patches and Vallejo squirt putty for the narrow cracks. I’ve even had to fill a couple of pinholes and shrinkage patches – not a feature on many modern kits. Looks a bit like snow drifts in the heading image…
Still, the basic structure cemented well in one day, and as I do not intend to super-detail it, we’re well on the way to undercoat. I tested the cockpit tray to see if it could go in after closure and it will. The heading image and this one are what I went bed on last night:
