The Next Big Thing

Is the next small thing. Right now people who went to the recent WASMEX show are planning their next build. The serious have already cut styrene off sprue trees. The real hard core are applying undercoat…

Part of it will be inspiration – people have seen lovely models on display and want to emulate the builders.

Part of it will be exasperation – their model of 2021 was ignored on the display table – big time – and the modeller needs to recover their reputation or mojo or investment.

Part of it will be competitiveness. If the judges wanted 1:1000 scale working landing lights, that is what’s going to be done. Never mind the loss of bank balance and eyesight. If the model’s wingtips melt off that’s the price of progress.

For myself – the person who has just started three other aircraft and two dioramas that have nothing to do with WASMEX 2022 – I’m good. Whatever is fresh in the workshop in May 2022 can go out on the table and I’ll be proud of it. I realise that I could show older models again but what the heck am I going to do with my evenings in the meantime?

If a person manages to build all their stash in one year, they can always resort to the stashes of their friends. You’re allowed to take what you like under the hobby laws.
