Some people rescue puppies and kittens – some people rescue bums. Good on them, I say – they are caring and compassionate souls. I’m not normally this good, but I do have one virtue; I rescue kits.
I did not start out to do my modelling this way – like most charitable affairs it just fell on me out of the blue. Or rather it fell on me at a modelling exhibition.
One of the hobby shops had a surplus of unsalable kits and put them out in a $ 5.00 box. I chose one – a small Soviet biplane kit by ICM – and figured that whatever it turned out like, I was only out 5 bucks. It turned out to be delightful…

So I knew that old or unwanted kits could be snapped up and turned to good account. This got better when bargain tables offered up half-built kits or discarded baggies. Friends learned of my hobby and donated very old kits that had never been started.

Never mind the age or condition – it was all grist for the mill.

Imagine my delight at finding a perfectly good Sword model of the Curtiss SB2C-4 Helldiver in a stash sale for $ 20. That’s Hobby Boss money for a kit that promises so much more. Should I buy it? Will I get value?
Don’t mind if I do…
