Bell AH-1 Z – Part One – Freak it

Sorry, that should have read Free Kit. This is a donation from Kevin, who is a master modeller in his own right. He does marvellous things with larger aircraft…and people who know him donate kits. If they are like this unprepossessing Hong Kong helicopter he donates them right on again.

It is a kit maker of whom I have never heard. That seems to be the case so often these days – and you are left in the dark as to the origin of much of their work as there is such an interchange in re-boxed kits. This seems original, if basic.

But is it? Opening the box shows only two sprue trees but a rather complex pattern of parts on them. And Glory be! They seem to be moulded free of flash. The only worrisome thing is I am unfamiliar with the prototype and with helicopters in general and cannot say whether or not the thing is accurate.

No matter – it will be built as an OOTB project at the SMCWA clubrooms anyway. I have few Marine Corps aircraft on show, so this one is going to be welcome.

Note the monochrome decal sheet – low visibility is the modern trend – and a small tube of cement. At least I think it’s cement…I can’t read Chinese to confirm that. Chicken me will stick with Mr. Hobby products and keep this one as a separate display item.
