A Good Club Mate

I normally do not bring other names to this column, but as this will also be read by my scale model club associates I will take the opportunity to pay homage to a former club mate.

He has passed on this last weekend. It was not unexpected, though greatly regretted. He told us several years ago that it would happen, and we’ve kept it in the back of our minds.

I met John about three years ago – others had the privilege of knowing him a lot longer. I believe he may have been a founder member of the club. His work was well-founded, as the organisation is excellent to this day.

He greeted me cordially at first sight and never altered that kindness. He was very witty with his remarks and very helpful with his advice. I gained at least four valuable pieces of instruction directly related to my enjoyment of the hobby from him, and heard numerous others in passing. He has done my modelling a world of good.

The club maintains a cabinet of models that have been left by previous members and John said that some of his would one day grace it. The real problem will be which of his prolific output to choose. Many of the cases at the clubrooms contain his models and they are all magnificent examples of the scale building hobby. I, for one, could understand leaving them all there…

Going to be a quieter and sadder place for awhile.
