Not. The USAAF was not concerned about squashing a dive bomber onto a deck-edge lift to strike it down to a hangar deck. They could specify a fixed wing and get a stronger one that would hold more bombs.
The Dragon model company makes this kit serve several purposes – US Navy SB2C as well as US Army A-25A – so they have included parts to render both these forms of construction. I am sad not to be using the very well-constructed hinge parts in the wing, but there is a sturdy bridging part that allows the join of inner and outer panels to be almost invisible.
This is not the last of the Curtiss dive bombers I’ll be building – I want to see if a Matchbox version can be converted to the prototype plane. It’s going to be a cheaper purchase than any of the short-run kits if one can be found in a stash sale.
