Here’s a dilemma. I’ve pictures of the prototype SB2C with folded wings. And the Matchbox kit has folding wings. But they are folded on the toy principle and look bloody awful.
I have low standards but every now and then something shows up that undercuts them. I have built folded wings on an Airfix Devastator by following instructions and gritting my teeth but this Matchbox offering is way worse than that. So I am going to take a leaf from another modeller’s book to join and seal the wings. If I need to indicate a fold line I can scribe it or draw it with a sharpie.
The tail is an easier matter to adjust. The short, fat, tail of the prototype can be cut down from the kit shape and the resultant fin thinned by sanding the parts before they are cemented together. It is all eyeball engineering anyway.
I should have been loathe to do this with anything more expensive.
