And buckle down and do it, do it, do it… Roger Miller was right – you just have to make the cockpit eventually.
This was not as bad as some – the amount of detail was enough to populate the space without demanding excess bending and fiddling.

The basic grey could be done with exactitude – even to the FS number. The decals that replicate the instruments looked good but were Italeri-thick and did not adapt themselves at all. However, the cockpit is so dim in there that the effect will not be spoiled.
Neither will the foot and helmet trimming necessary to put the two electronics officers into their seats be seen. Had Italeri supplied the crew they may have fit untrimmed – but these are Airfix USAF crewmen. At least the pilot looks the part.

Note that the closing of the fuselage traps some 20g of lead for the balance. I was surprised at this as the main wheels are fairly far back on the fuselage. Better safe than sorry, and Italeri specified it anyway.
