I heard a suggestion a few weeks ago and took it on board – a good idea for the Big Local Plastic Model Show. I hope we are granted the blessing of it and are here to participate – in anticipation of which I have started a project to fill two display tables. It’ll be different from my RCAF WET DOG airfield of 2021, but just as much fun.

Some of the components of it are complete – a lot yet to build. As I finish other projects I’ll swing into concentrated production. The first stage will be the construction of the Italeri F-100F Super Sabre.

At the outset I must record that the lawyers and accountants at Boeing are getting their cut from this model kit. The actual aeroplane had nothing to do with them – it was a North American item like the original F-86. Only later corporate sales deals have let Boeing dip their fingers in the licensing pot.
Curse them.

The kit itself looks a delight – engraved panel lines and crisp rendering. Fabulous decal sheet from Zanchetti Buccinasco in Italy. We laugh about the amount of stencilling on USAF planes of the time, but as long as you do the applications carefully in order, you are fine. I’m not going to opt for the exact box art, but one of the NATO deployment schemes should be perfect for my purposes.

Note that I have never been led astray by an Italeri kit or kit instructions yet. I hold them in great respect.

Time to check the metallic lacquers in the paint racks. If I am right, this will be a shining year.
