Fokker D VII – Part Five – The Starter Kit Ended

My determination to make a starter kit in period style has resulted in a delightful model.

It was not all retro-perfect. I did resort to a computer program and an inkjet printer for the lozenge-pattern decals. I did add little licks from several paint pots that Revell did not supply. And I did poke a few dabs of cyanoacrylate cement in to re-enforce strut attachments.

However, the job was all brush paint up to the final varnish coat, and had it been a cooler day, I would have sat in my workshop and slopped on the Micro Scale satin with a flat brush. As it was I opted for the spray to get in and out before I melted.

There are errors, of course. The enthusiasts of the period will see them instantly. I am not fraudulent enough to pretend they were deliberate. But I can live with them – those who insist on pestering me about them may not…

My verdict is that it was a good exercise and the Revell kit and parts do what you pay for. I am happy to add the Fokker D VII to my Old-Timers section in the Air World display. The Contacta cement is still liquid and the tube patent so I’ll use it up.

The thick red and blue acrylic paints may get less of a run in the future but I shall keep them sealed in reserve. They are not bad products at all, for brush materials. The double ended brush will also join one of the tool boxes as a convenient novelty.

I think I got value!
