Just sat me down to the Monogram night fighter kit and have progressed well.
Progressed by dint of the simple moulding and precise fit of the parts. Make no mistake – when the classic kit makers were in their prime they could turn out some precise work. There might be raised panel lines, but the fuselage halves fit with no gaps – first time.
Likewise wings, tanks, and such. This kit features an exposed set of machine guns in the center section of the wing with a hatch to lift up. I cannot pass by this opportunity, and will be adding the brass of the feed belts as well as the receiver and barrel colours. The interior is being finished in a standard interior green as I have given up fussing about the exact places it goes. I’ve a period picture from the net that confirms the colour inside one USAAF fighter plane and I’m using that for most of the others.

The inclusion of two figures for this is a welcome thing – one even has a separate arm moulding to allow him to grasp the control column. Anything to fill a bare cockpit without having to resort to $ 25 of photo-etch brass!
Note, I have checked the paint locker to make sure I have three bottles of my favourite semi-gloss black; Mr Color No. 92. I wish there were more rattle cans of it on the shelves at present, but the three bottles will be hoarded for all night bombers and fighters.
