Savoia-Marchetti SM.81 – Part Two – Club Model

The discipline of building specific models in specific circumstances seems to be working out reasonably well – I keep two separate model kits for the two clubs I attend, and one kit a’building in my home workshop.

Of course there are cross-overs when one comes to the painting stage – then I use my own airbrush facilities here at home. The SMCWA club has a new spray room but I have not factored that into the workflow yet. I do enjoy my weekly morning there and do as much as I can on that club build.

In the case of the Pipistrello, this means the interior, the wings, and the prop work for undercarriage and engines. The dry-fit stage was practically perfect with very little fettling needed on major components.

In my evocation of the plane there will be a reduced visibility for the interior, but as the radio set is opposite the port fuselage door I shall leave the access open to show it off. Italeri really make a nice set of decals. Even when you chop them up for other projects they seem to settle perfectly onto painted surfaces.

I wonder if Cartograf make separate sets of after-market decals like some of the other firms. I’d buy ’em if there was a local distributor.
