Savoia Marchetti SM.81 – Part Four – Stop Laughing

This is serious.

That’s an Australian joke, for the overseas readers. For the locals, its a historic Australian cartoon. Go look it up. The Bulletin long ago.

In my case the risible arose because I needed to occlude the window spaces of the Pipistrello before painting. I’d deliberately left out the bulls-eye plastic windows that Italeri provide in favour of glazing them later with Micro Kristal Klear PVA. But the paint would waft into the plane and spoil the interior.

Luckily, the SM people placed the round cabin windows opposite each other on the sides of the fuselage and one wooden cocktail stick wrapped in masking tape would plug both holes. I couldn’t paint at the club but I could do a good prep job for the airbrushing at home.

It has the look of an expensive barbecue.
